The music department at Como has a wide variety of courses with something to interest everyone. Four choirs, two beginning and two select, are offered to provide increasing levels of sophistication to vocal students. Class Piano and Beginning Class Guitar allow students to experience playing those instruments in a group setting. Orchestra and two wind bands offer students with experience in instrumental ensembles an opportunity to further develop their skills on their instrument. Extra-curricular opportunities through the music department include: an annual musical, a vocal jazz ensemble and an instrumental jazz group and solo and ensemble contest opportunities within Region 4AA.
Concert Choir and Donna di Cantare (women's choir intermediate) attended Region 4AA Minnesota High School League Group Contests last March. Donna di Cantare received a rating of "excellent" and Concert Choir received a "superior" rating. CONGRATULATIONS to all members of these ensembles for demonstrating remarkable work. We are very proud of them.
On March 11, 2010, 23 singers will be heading to New York City for a performance at the famous Carnegie Hall. They will be performing the Beethoven Mass in C Major with singers from around the country under the direction of world renown conductor, John Rutter. We are all very excited!
